About Standard Industries

Standard Industries have been manufacturing gauge plates for over 50 years in Australia and supplying Local & State Government Agencies, water authorities and electrical generators.

Each standard gauge plate is 1000mm x 130mm in size. The markings are in 0.01m increments labelled at 0.10m intervals. Meter markings can be added if required.

Our Australian-made gauge plates are silk screen printed onto .6mm aluminium, coated with 200-micron alkyd enamel. The plates will be 1000mm x 130mm and printed in black baked enamel.

The gauge plate material has been formulated to endure the harsh environments required for measuring water depths in either dams or floodways.

DEC gauge readings indicate the water depth at the deepest location in the wetland, even though gauges are usually not at the deepest location, but instead are closer to the shore, to facilitate viewing.

Readings are taken from Department of Water (DoW) gauges at several metropolitan wetlands. These DoW gauges indicate height above Australian Height Datum (mean sea level), which SWWMP personnel convert to wetland water depth.

Since 2007, the standard practice of SWWMP personnel when taking gauge readings has been to take a digital photograph of the gauge at the time of reading, so that all records may be checked and verified or corrected back in the office.
